Open Door Community Health Centers: Another Green Pharmacy Partner
January 7, 2010 -- Open Door Community Health Centers (ODCHC), Arcata, California is launching a drug disposal program in partnership with the Teleosis Green Pharmacy Program to reduce pharmaceutical pollution. Three of their 10 health centers will provide pharmaceutical disposal bins starting in January 2010 with the support of local city and county agencies. Founded in 1971, ODCHC is a non profit organization providing affordable health care throughout Humbolt County.
The Open Door clinics are the first in Humbolt County to commit to such a program. In the first month alone, this community collectively gathered the necessary resources and support from local agencies, with representatives from the cities of Arcata and Eureka, Humbolt Waste Management Authority, McKinleyville Community Services District, and Open Door Community Health Centers, to organize the medicine take-back sites. The first medicine disposal lockbox will be in clinics in Arcata, with Eureka and Mckinleyville to follow soon.
The medicine take-back lockbox will be freely accessible to anyone who wants to drop off unwanted and expired medications at Humboldt Open Door Community Health Center, 770 10th St Arcata, CA 95521.
The Teleosis Institute Green Pharmacy Program values partners and sponsors highlighting new partner take-back sites for their dedication to protecting the environment from pharmaceutical pollution. Through this type of collaboration, we can truly make a difference in the health of our communities.
The OPEN DOOR Community Health Centers exist to provide health care and education to residents of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties and surrounding rural areas. Through example, education, and participation in the health care community, Open Door seeks to promote the development of a health care system which meets the needs and enhances the health of all the individuals in our communities.www.opendoorhealth.com
