Green Health Care Embodies Principles of Naturopathy
When she first moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, naturopath Dr. Cory Reddish, (aka Dr. Cory) was in search of a supportive community that would share her passion and commitment to the principles of naturopathic medicine. One principle, the healing power of nature, encourages practitioners to support clients in trusting the innate ability of the body to heal itself. The principle first do no harm suggests utilizing the safest and least toxic therapies available. Prevention encourages practitioners to focus on overall health, wellness and disease prevention. With these fundamentals guiding her work, Dr. Cory was excited to join the Green Health Care Program, which emphasizes personal and environmental health, as well as the provision of health care that is safe and prevention-based.
Dr. Cory’s enthusiasm around Greening the Workplace -- the component of the Green Health Care Program that addresses the conservation and reduction of resources in health care offices -- reinforced her desire to integrate environmental wellness into her practice. Her love of nature and healing motivated her to develop an in-depth cleanse class that helps her clients better understand the connection between personal health and the environment. Foundational to her class is the concept that “the creation of disease is multi-factorial, and living in a physically or emotionally unhealthy or toxic environment can increase people’s susceptibility to illness.” The Essential Cleanse is a rejuvenation and detoxification program that provides clients with effective tools to aid in restoring balance to the body’s natural functioning, to address the root cause of illness, and to encourage healing transformation. Through The Essential Cleanse, people discover “a vehicle to help themselves make small changes to stay healthy in a toxic world.”
As a dedicated practitioner who believes that human health depends on a healthy planet, Dr. Cory “lives her life treading as lightly as she can, using sustainable practices as much as she can.” Her interest in health care and sustainability translates into a “fusion of traditional, natural, time-proven practices with modern practices to create a new sustainable health paradigm.” By integrating environmental awareness into her practice, Dr. Cory has taken an important step, advancing our collaborative efforts towards an ecologically sustainable medical system.
Dr. Cory received her doctorate from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. In 1999, she founded the Uptown Center of Natural Medicine and Uptown Natural Pharmacy where she maintained a private practice in Port Townsend, WA until moving to Mill Valley, CA earlier this year.
